Welcome In

Located off of Speedway and 24th streets, the celebrated entrance of the Gary L. Thomas Energy Engineering building (GLT) will open to a grand staircase, a wall of windows bringing the outdoors inside, and high ceilings exposing the levels above. Here, engineering is on display as occupants will be able to see inside classroom and lab spaces immediately as they enter the building, highlighting our hands-on curriculum and establishing a sense of collaboration.

Completing the Engineering Corridor

The GLT marks the southernmost cap of the engineering corridor, completing the line of engineering facilities that begins with the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and Engineering Technology Center buildings at its northern end. What now appears as an open window at the top of the staircase leading to Level 2 will eventually become the bridge and building entrance that connects the GLT to the rest of the corridor, giving our engineers access to the majority of  engineering facilities with few obstacles in between.

Mixing Modern with Traditional

With expansive windows and aluminum siding on the north façade and rusticated brick and limestone paneling on the south façade, the building combines the modern look and feel of our Engineering Education and Research Center with the traditional vibe of our longer-standing engineering buildings.

Meet, Greet, and Learn

The Level 5 Lounge and Lecture Hall is a meeting space with a view, positioned to overlook the Engineering Education and Research Center, UT Tower and Darrell K Royal Football Stadium. The state-of-the-art space will act as a study lounge, classroom and an area for hosting events.
